Music Is Healing

I’ve been thinking a lot recently about how my love of music influences my approach to sound healing.

How leaning from the musical Goddesses that came before me unlock my permission to be deeply creative within the world of sound baths & vibrational healing.

Music has always been a massive part of my life - my first memories are that of dancing around the rug in the living room to Nina Simone, My Baby Just Cares For Me. (I used to call it the train song… Go ahead, listen with childlike wonder & you’ll see why!)

From the moment a guitar landed in my 11 year old hands, I was on a mission to recreate chords, textures, tones & finger picking patterns of the 70s singer-songwriters. It amazed me that my fingers could recreate the same notes as Joni Mitchell - in a way, I was channeling her through me.

This made playing the guitar feel like MAGIC.

On that wavelength, if take into account a Buddhist style of thinking - a guitar is a gift from Mother Nature. It grew as a tree from the earth. When carved with precision & then played with love - magic is created.

In my mid 20s the fizzy-magic-music feeling reignited when discovered the world of Crystal Bowls & sound baths. Crystal Bowls, just like guitars are gifts from Mother Nature as they are made from elements of the earth. I believe when you listen their pure, clear tones - its like hearing the earth sing to you.

Each and every time I sit & sing with my Crystal Bowls I call upon the inspirational women who came before me - let's call them Goddesses of Music.

You will hear the whispers of Stevie Nicks, Nina Simone, Carly Simon & Carole King. Like angels & guides their notes ring out through me to you. This is the power of music & sound. The vibrations never end.

If you do one thing today, head to YouTube and watch your favourite singer perform. Notice how they use the whole of their body to birth the song through their voice. The very voice that vibrates from their heart. Notice how this makes you feel. Notice how this makes you HEAL.

If you are a sound practitioner use THIS as your inspiration next time you hold space.

Let me know who your musical inspiration is? What music allows you to heal?

I think there might just be a whole book in me about this topic… Watch this space…
